The other day I was chatting with a colleague in the hallway.  I like him, and we were jesting in that way men have when they are on opposite sides in most things that matter but intend peace.

He chortled at seeing The Demagogue go from triumph to triumph in the Republican primaries, because it would help his own favorite win victory in the general election -- a woman whose entire career has been built upon mendacity.

We might rather mourn that the republic has come to this:  That for the most powerful political office in the world -- if it is still so -- one historic party might nominate one kind of lying reprobate, and the other party nominate another.
