You decide. My post about answering fools according to their folly appeared on Saturday. His quip about The Demagogue’s “small hands” – which wasn’t really about his hands -- was delivered at a rally on Sunday.
The chief mode of answering fools according to their folly is answering invective with invective. Until recently, the Senator has followed the proverb “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.” But by not treating The Demagogue as the cad, scoundrel, and buffoon that he is, he lent him legitimacy.
But now the Senator seems to have decided that the contest has crossed over the threshold into the zone in which the opposite proverb applies: “Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.” In this case, he has answered the fool exactly as to his folly, vulgarity for vulgarity.
No one should be pleased that the contest has been dragged into the gutter. But it was already in the gutter, or in Twitter, which is much the same thing. Do you get the impression that the Senator he is enjoying it? He must have been holding himself back up until now. Try to punch me in the kidneys, will you? I’ll show you kidneys.
